This Salon will explore the current U.S.-Iran negotiations against the backdrop of a fragile ceasefire and a broader regional confrontation whose implications extend well beyond the nuclear issue itself. Rather than treating the present moment as a straightforward diplomatic opening, the event situates it within a broader framework of military escalation, contested deterrence, maritime security, regional alignments, and the persistent challenge of translating temporary de-escalation into a durable political arrangement. The central questions are whether Washington and Tehran can reduce tensions in the short term, and whether either side is prepared to support a more stable regional order after the war.
Expect differing opinions, opposing positions and contrasting views. Come prepared to share your views and speak your mind about some of the most pressing international issues facing us today!

Some Questions We May Discuss:
1) With the Pakistan-brokered ceasefire currently set for only two weeks, and disputes already arising over Lebanon and the terms of the Strait of Hormuz reopening, is this truly a diplomatic 'opening' or merely a tactical pause for both sides to rearm and reassess? What are the 'red lines' that, if crossed today, would make a return to full-scale kinetic conflict inevitable?
2) Iran has worked to condition the opening of the Strait of Hormuz on a 'toll' and military management, while President Trump has demanded a 'COMPLETE and SAFE' opening. In a post-war regional order, can the U.S. and its Gulf allies ever return to the status quo of 'freedom of navigation,' or has Iran successfully moved the goalposts on maritime sovereignty permanently?
3) Who is the United States negotiating with and will each faction in Iran be represented? Will each faction agree?
