Speaker Bio:

Mr. Aseem Mahajan joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1998. Prior to assuming his duties as Consul General in Houston in January 2020, he was Indian Ambassador to the World Trade Organization in Geneva.

In his earlier diplomatic assignments, he served as the Deputy High Commissioner in the Indian missions in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Dhaka, Bangladesh, and as the Consul General of India, Osaka, Japan. He also served in the Indian missions in Tokyo and Vientiane, Laos.

While at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Mr. Mahajan worked on matters concerning the United Nations, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and the Republic of Maldives. He also served as the Staff Officer to the Minister of State for External Affairs and as Joint Secretary coordinating the management of the annual Haj Pilgrimage from India.

Mr. Mahajan holds a master’s degree in Diplomatic Studies from the University of Oxford (UK), a master’s degree in Management Studies from Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani (India), as well as WTO law training courses.

He speaks Japanese, English, Hindi and some other Indian languages. He is married with a son and daughter.
