The New World Order, A Perspective from Japan and the USA a conversation with Consul General MIKAMI Toichi, and Ahmed Abd Rabou, Asst Prof Korbel School. Moderated By Fritz Mayer, Dean Josef Korbel School

Consul General MIKAMI Yoichi was born in Kyoto- City, Japan, in 1964 and joined the Foreign Service in 1985. Prior to assuming his duties as Consul General of Japan in Denver, he was Minister Counselor, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in Ankara.

In his earlier assignments, Consul General Yoichi first served as Third Secretary at the Embassy in Tel- Aviv. In 1990 he became the Vice-Consul, at the Consulate General of Japan in New York. He joined the research division (Intelligence and Analysis) in 1993 and later served as First Secretary, first at the Embassy of Japan in Tel-Aviv and next in Washington D.C. In 2008 he became the Chief of the Peace Process Section, First Middle East Division. In 2013 he became the Senior Regional Coordinator of the First Middle East Division, MOFA, and later the Director of the Exchange Programs Division, MOFA

He speaks English and Hebrew. He is married with one child.


Ahmed Abd Rabou is currently a visiting assistant professor at Josef Korbel School of International Studies-University of Denver. Abd Rabou has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals on democratization in Egypt and other Arab nations. He is also known among Egyptian scholars for his specialization in civil-military relations, political Islam and democratization in the Middle East, on which he currently focuses his research. Professor Abdrabou is the Director, US and Japan Diplomacy Program at the Korbel School of International studies. He spent 8 years in Japan and obtained his MA from Meiji University and his Ph.D. from Hokkaido University.

Frederick ‘Fritz’ Mayer, Ph.D., is the dean of the Josef Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver. Dean Mayer's research interests include international trade and economic globalization and the role of storytelling in politics and collective action. He has published two single-author books, four educational publications, and numerous articles and chapters. He is affiliated with the American Political Science Association, the International Studies Association, and the Association of Public Policy and Management. Prior to DU, Dean Mayer served as professor of public policy, political science and environment; associate dean; director of the Center for Political Leadership, Innovation and Service; and director of the Program on Global Policy and Governance at the Terry Sandford School of Public Policy at Duke University.
